Moving into the Future
The quest is to evolve from the Computer Museum of America Apple and PC interim collections of innovation and technology Pop-Up exhibits and its events venue to construct a permanent, premier world class museum and major event facility. Under consideration, too, are co-working offices, trade & exhibition hall, eSports arena, discovery labs and maker spaces mixed with lifestyle amenities such as coffee cafes, restaurants, entertainment opportunities, fitness and retail shops focused on next-generation innovation. The outcome will be a first of a new kind of multi-use complex and community of lasting relationships, designed for the creatively inspired visitor, client, customer, business, or enterprise seeking to share tools, exchange information and ideas, as well as support experimental discovery and a mentor’s success.
Over the past several years, the Computer Museum of America (CMoA) -- home to one of the world’s largest collection of iconic computers -- has been open for private shows and events in a “vintage” Comp USA building in Roswell. As Pop-Up exhibits, a museum term for displays of a temporary nature, the location served as a "test kitchen" for feedback, input and response from visitors as plans continued to develop the museum’s ultimate design and location.
As research and community feedback continued, outreach programs began to develop with strategic organizations such as more established museums from coast to coast, academic institutions and private enterprise including the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG). TAG Education Foundation, Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and Georgia Tech.
The CMoA hosted numerous events including Roswell Connect, Greater North Fulton Chamber Opportunity Outlook, TAG events, FIRST Robotic events, the annual Vintage Computer Festival, a Summer Saturdays at the Museum and more. The response has been overwhelmingly positive and guests leave with knowledge, insight and inspiration.
